Come spend a week in a small Indian cliff town under the care of a lovely Ayurvedic centre with daily yoga classes, healing body treatments and healthy balanced meals.

In the practice of Ayurveda, ancient Indian medicine, the bodies natural healing mechanisms are awakened through therapeutic body treatments, full body massage, proper foods and regular exercise in the form of Yoga. The goal is to help break unwanted habits and patterns and to give the body what it truly needs for recovery, not what the mind is telling it it wants. Bringing you back into a more natural balance. The stress of daily life can lead us to create unhealthy choices and with proper diet, physical therapies and yoga, those can be taken out of your system helping to give you a full systematic reset.

There will be three healthy meals a day combined with one ayurvedic therapy and two yoga classes. The classes will take place on the roof top in the morning and late afternoon and you will have plenty of free time to rest, sit on the beach or explore the local area.

The centre is located in Varkala, Kerala, deep in the south of India. Varkala is known for its abundance of palm trees, a winding cliff top with amazing ocean views, its young and lively atmosphere and a very warm and welcoming people. You will feel right at home and taken care of during your stay as you shake off the world and reconnect with yourself.

One Ayurvedic Body Treatment a day...

Shirodhara Amsterdam


This Ayurveda therapy involves gently pouring lukewarm medicated oil over the forehead in a continuous stream.

Shirodhara is one of the most relaxing, healing and rejuvenating therapy of today's world. The roots of this treatment stems out from the 6000 year old Indian science of Ayurveda.

It has been used to treat a variety of conditions including stress, eye diseases, sinusitis, allergic rhinitis, neurological disorders, memory loss, hearing impairment, vertigo and insomnia. It is also used at spas for its relaxing properties.

Njavarakizhi Amsterdam


This unique and deeply beneficial treatment employs medicated herbal rice to nourish and strengthen the body.

This procedure is highly rejuvenating and nourishing while strengthening the patient’s body to bear the stresses and strains of a busy lifestyle. It is extremely effective against rheumatism, joint and muscle pains, back pains (e.g. sciatica, slipped discs), high blood pressure and high cholesterol levels. It reinforces the nervous system and improves the overall appearance of the skin. It is also employed in the treatment of chronic rheumatism and arthritis.

Commonly known as the traditional Ayurvedic full body massage, this relaxing and refreshing treatment is done with medicated herbal oils to treat the whole body physically and mentally while balancing the dosas.

Its rhythmic motion helps to relieve joints and muscles from stiffness while increasing body movement. This stimulating treatment increases blood circulation, providing relief from diseases such as anxiety, fatigue, circulatory disorders, arthritic problems, backaches and injuries.

In this Ayurvedic treatment herbal poultices are prepared with various herbs and medicated powders. These poultices are warmed in medicated oils and used to massage the entire body, neck, shoulders, hands and back, shifting the body from side to side.

This therapy promotes blood circulation and increases joint movement. It improves muscle strength, relieves pain and treats rheumatism, arthritis, sciatica, spondylosis and certain nervous disorders. It also induces better circulation, increases perspiration, improves the skin tone and can be extremely relaxing and rejuvenating.

Start your day off with an invigorating early morning yoga class. The lessons will change daily combining vinyasa and hatha yoga with meditation and pranayama.

The morning lessons is followed by a light healthy breakfast and a daily relaxing Ayurvedic therapy. After that you can rest, relax some more, or enjoy a dip in the ocean to cool off from the warm Indian sun. Lunch will be served on the rooftop at flexible times so you are free to eat when you like during the early afternoon.

We will meet on the roof again for another open air yoga lesson after everyone has had their treatment and free time. You can expect something completely different this time. The lessons themselves will be inspired by the group energy as we will all be going through the healing process together. Jason and Jo will also be available for chats and questions before and after class time.

The schedule is designed so that you don't ever feel hurried or pressure and have plenty of free time to truly let go and relax. We want you to be able to surrender and let go while taking the best care of yourself.

Our goal is to help you reach a state of total relaxation, mentally and physically, by applying yogic principals to daily life. Proper exercise, breathing, diet and rest calm the mind allowing us to reconnect to ourselves and let go of all unnecessary stresses. The overall structure of the retreat requires consistent, yet not intense work on ourselves.

Jason Yoga Amsterdam


Jason has been on the yoga path for two decades now. His interest started with meditation when he was a teenager which led him to his own self created yoga practice at home. Not happy with what he found in books he decided to go to India and study at the source. There the real inward journey began. Knowing that not everyone is on a spiritual path, but everyone can benefit from yoga, he decided to create a space where yoga is made accessible for everyone. No dogma, just yoga. We are all free to find what we need from yoga whether its relief from stress or pain or just a way to ease your mind. Jason also offers Yoga Therapy and Inspirational Life Coaching. If you want to go further, all you need to do is ask. Otherwise, just enjoy the mat.

Jo Vinyasa Amsterdam


Jo began practicing Vinyasa Yoga in 2008 to help create a sense of balance between her studying and professional life as an interior architect and product designer. After 8 years of practice she traveled to Goa, India to dive deeper into her practice and complete her teacher training as a Vinyasa instructor. Jo’s approach to Yoga takes on a modern twist as she incorporates her natural creativity with powerful movement. She motivates and empowers her students to reach their fullest selves

In yoga philosophy the mind is formed from the essence of the foods we eat. We need to nourish the mind through the body with whole and pure foods. Indian food can be heavy but all meals will be prepared with local ingredients based on ayurvedic dietary principles. Expect wonderful local dishes that are light and easy to digest leaving you feeling full but not weighed down. Thus saving energy for yoga and recovery.

Papanasham Beach

Counted as one of the top ten seasonal beaches in the world by discovery channel, this beach has a stunning beauty of landscapes, brown sand, and blue sea. It's a perfect spot to relax with a laidback atmosphere. Popular for beach activities like swimming and sunbathing, this beach offers striking sunset views. It can simply take your breath away with its long winding stretch of cliff that expands over the Arabian Sea. It's called Papanasham beach as it is believed that taking a bath here washes away all sins.

Janardhana Swami Temple

The 2000 years old Janardhana Swamy Temple is one of the ancient temples and a major pilgrim spot in Varkala. The temple is renowned as a famous pilgrim centre and it tempts everyone with its architectural grandeur. The temple looks on to the Papanasam beach and the close proximity to the sea adds to its religious and esthetical ambience. Lord Shiva is the deity of this temple and many pilgrims flock here to perform final rites for the deceased.

Kathakali Dance

Kathakali is probably the most fascinating traditional performing art form in India's rich cultural pageant. This uniquely interpretative dance governed by dramatic dynamics, including an elaborately defined code of body kinetics, which combine with beautifully eloquent gestural representation. Kathakali has become a world-famous dance-drama within the least fifteen years. Nearly every foreigner who visits Kerala wants to see a Kathakali performance.

Varkala Cliff

The Varkala cliff tops are the only ones to be found in southern Kerala that are adjacent to the Arabian Sea. Declared as a geological monument, these Cenozoic sedimentary cliff formations are a unique geological feature on the otherwise flat Kerala coast. Several handicraft shops are located along these cliffs, along with restaurants and cafes from where you can enjoy a fantastic sunset view of the ocean and beach below.

Kappil Lake

Bordered with coconut groves and trees this tranquil estuary roves gracefully and merges into the Arabian Sea. Get on the bridge that is built across the lake and you will get the most fascinating view of the lake pacing toward the blue horizon. The more adventurous can go for boating to enjoy the beauty of this lake. The Department of Tourism has arranged a boat club from where one can hire pedal boats which is another way to browse this tranquil waterway.

With 200 acres of sanctified land, this is the final resting place of the most eminent leader, saint and social reformer of Kerala, Sree Narayana Guru. The organization he founded for the upliftment of backward classes is headquartered here. The Mahasamadhi of the revered guru is located on top of a hill. Further down is the guru's residence, where his humble belongings are kept on display.

Accommodation at the Ayurvedic Centre

This healing centre is truly a little home away from home. The facilities might not be luxurious but they feel as if they are because of the care and love that is provided from the staff. Every room is different in shape, size and amenities. Some even have private balconies and there are communal balconies and rooftops for everyone to use as well. It kind of feels like being home for the holidays but with an extended family that you've only just met!

All rooms have private toilets and will be used for single occupancy unless you come with a friend or partner. Rooms with balconies will be assigned on a first come first served basis. So, if you really want one, save your place now. Upgraded accommodations such as private bungalows and rooms with terraces are also available.
